Out on one of my favorite trails, I finally spotted a female moose in this particular valley for the first time this year. She was shedding her winter fur, grazing on douglas fir and very uncerta... Out on one of my favorite trails, I finally spotted a female moose in this particular valley for the first time this year. She was shedding her winter fur, grazing on douglas fir and very uncertain about me at first. Before long, she relaxed and sat down. To my surprise - when I looked back at the timestamps from my images, I realized that I spent over an hour and fifteen minutes with her! Time flies on a gorgeous day when you're sharing the forest with wildlife. I moved along down the trail and also encountered a dusky grouse. They seem to be known for being fairly docile, but I almost always seem to startle them into flying away. Thankfully, this one wasn't too bothered by me, but she did slowly walk away until I hiked further away.
