After a cold and dark morning, the sun eventually came out and so did the big boys that call the canyon home. This being my first trip to Waterton Canyon, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Now in retrospect, I'm surprised that it took me this long to visit. I often have mixed feelings about photographing wildlife that's so accustomed to humans like these herds, but it offers an amazing opportunity nonetheless. Super impressive group of rams and I can't wait to go back another day. Read more
The first encounter of the season at my favorite bighorn spot also turned into another surprising personal first. An individual bighorn ewe decided to quickly come over and stay right along my side for over two full hours. It was truly an incredible experience, even if the images aren't particularly dramatic or focused on a champion ram. It's a great sign for the season ahead with the bighorn herd that I've followed for over two years. Read more
Driving out of Sand Wash Basin after what I thought was my final/best encounter of the trip, I intersected one of my favorite groups. The lead mustangs in this band have featured prominently in my prior posts, and they put on a parting show true to theirs and SWB's spirit. Read more
